Did you know fish have climate preferences? Yes, some fish are bothered by rain and wind, so they move to deeper waters and you won’t be able to catch them during the rainy season.
However, there are other fish that love the rain, especially freshwater fish that feed on insects, because when it rains, the water pushes insects into the water and onto the surface, so fish stay near the surface to catch them. When it rains at sea, birds tend to seek shelter and stop hunting, making fish feel comfortable chasing bait toward the surface.
Sunny weather is not always the best for fishing. On hot days, fewer insects are on the water’s surface because of the heat, and fish prefer to move to deeper waters when the sun is very strong. That is why it is recommended to go fishing very early in the morning or later in the afternoon during summer.
Fish cannot regulate their body temperature, so to stay at a healthy temperature, they will seek warmer or cooler waters depending on their needs.
That is why it is very useful for anglers to know fish seasons. In the Pacífico, you can fish in different places. Leaving from Panama City, you can visit Isla Taboga at 8 nautical miles, Las Perlas archipelago at 35 nautical miles (on the north side), and Las Perlas archipelago (on the south side) at 50+ nautical miles.
Panama has two distinct weather seasons, and with them you can catch different types of fish:
During summer (approximately from December to March) the main species to catch would be:

Inshore fishing: Various species of grouper, bojalá, various species of snapper, seabass (corvina), Spanish mackerel, roosterfish (only available in the Las Perlas archipelago)
Offshore fishing: Yellowfin tuna, albacore tuna, bonito tuna, jack, African pompano
During winter or the rainy season (approximately April to November) the main species to catch would be:
Inshore fishing: various species of grouper, various species of snapper, bojalá (amberjack and almaco jack), corvinas and mackerel
Offshore fishing: Dorado (mahi-mahi), yellowfin tuna, bonito tuna, jack, wahoo and sailfish (only available on the extended tour to the south of the Las Perlas archipelago)
