What species can you fish on Lake Gatún?
The most common species caught on Lake Gatún are Peacock bass (Sargento), Snook, Tarpon, Jack, Tilapia, Tiger fish and Oscar (Astronotus ocellatus).
What else can you do during the Private Fishing Tour on Lake Gatún?
You can visit Monkey Island, a popular tropical island with lush vegetation where white-faced capuchin and howler monkeys live. The jungle landscape of Monkey Island is the natural habitat of several animal species, including a variety of birds, iguanas and other reptiles. Whenever possible, your guide will get you close to the animals while avoiding any disruption to their natural feeding patterns.
Lake Gatún is part of the Canal watershed, so you'll also enjoy watching the massive ships transit the Panama Canal.
Are lures and bait included?
Yes. The tour includes all the gear and equipment you'll need for a productive morning (or afternoon) of fishing.
Is transportation to the departure site included?
No. But if you need transportation, we'll gladly coordinate it for you.
Do prices include fuel?
Yes. Fuel, passenger insurance, dockage and operational costs are included. Ice and fishing gear are also included.
Are snacks included?
Yes. Tours include complimentary drinks (water, juices, Gatorade and beer) and snacks.
Can juices be swapped for sodas (or other drinks)?
Yes — as long as the request is made in advance, we'll do our best to accommodate you and personalize your trip.
Can I bring my own food or drinks? Are there extra charges?
You can bring your own food or drinks, including alcoholic beverages, at no extra charge. We only ask that you please not bring glass containers on board, for the safety of all passengers and crew.
Is there a discount if the boat goes below passenger capacity?
No. Gem Charters offers private yacht charters; prices are for the full rental of the vessel. This means you'll have exclusive use of the boat regardless of how many guests you invite. We do not currently offer per-person passes on this tour.
What should I bring that isn't on the boat?
Sunscreen; if you're prone to motion sickness we recommend bringing your medication; towels, a change of clothes and mosquito repellent.
